Eye Drops

Last Wednesday Dad had cataract surgery on his left eye, a simple operation that only takes ten minutes (of the surgeon's time.) Never-the-less, it was a full day of hurry up and wait, but that's the norm, no big deal. It went without a hitch, but no one mentioned the slave schedule dedicated to assorted eye drops, complete with checklist and Mom's new role as head nurse. Good thing he's disciplined and keeps me from getting sloppy about timing. The other eye gets the same treatment sometime around Xmas. I'm bummed 'cause I wanted to go first but mine won't be "ripe" for a couple more years. The neat part is you don't usually have to wear glasses afterwards!

Part of the consequence is the order for no lifting over 20 lbs for a couple of weeks so I guess the oven will stay in the middle of the floor for a while yet. Probably not a good idea to risk getting sawdust in the eye either. There will be plenty we can still do, however. There's scaffolding to be made for the stairwell so the grasscloth wall can be painted... you can imagine why we've been putting that off!

We went to Atlanta last week to deliver paintings and then downtown to visit the big IKEA store, looking for good but cheap furniture. These stores are all over Europe, much of the furnishings in the residency I went to was from Ikea, a Swedish based company. A very interesting concept in merchandising, warehouse style. The prices are way cheap yet very stylish in a Scandinavian way. Since the lake house was built by Esther Swensen, from Sweden, we think this will be a good way to go in pulling furniture together for it. So... next, we have to return the Pier 1 dining set (cheap but not cheap enough, and purchased individually so we'd get the 20% coupon sale on each piece instead of just the table... it's our new hobby, donchaknow?) This chair is WAY comfortable! First to find some affordable flooring... that will be a trick.
