Geocashing in Arkansas

So we've attempted a few caches, some close to home and for the New Year weekend we decided we would camp at Lake DeGray State Park and find the caches hidden there. Since weather this time of year can be brutal and we were going to have two 10 year old girls, we decided to rent a yurt at the park. Wow, I'm definitely going to consider that yurt thing again. The yurt we stayed in was on the water and had a huge surrounding deck area with a picnic pad and a fire pit AND a two burner propane stove out on the deck. 3 bunk beds, a long table, folding chairs, a lamp and a cooler still left room inside for sitting in the floor watching a movie and eating popcorn. Movies and popcorn on a camping trip???

We knew by Friday night that the weather on Saturday would probably be nasty so we packed up a small TV/DVD player and some movies and headed down, hoping for the best. The girls seemed quite happy to walk along the lake edge, looking for bones and other nasty things while there was a short break in the rain.



Then when the rain started up again, we retreated for an epic game of Disney Monopoly. A few card games, Mac N Cheese, 2 Jiffy Pops and 2 1/2 movies later, I finally called lights out.



Luckily Sunday's weather was much better. We headed down to the lodge for the breakfast buffet...YUM!! Then we set out on the trail that runs right out of the lodge parking lot for our first cache find.



This was our small guest's first geocaching experience and both girls had a ball trying to figure out what to take out and what to add in to the caches we found...
